An option could also be to turn off the lamp on your scanner (cut the
power lead to the lamp and add a switch if you have to) and use a cold
light (such as the one used with your enlarger, if you have such a
thing). I have an HP-6300C and their optional 5x5 inch transparency
lamp which works fine, but it is not 16-bit. And they do not make an
8x10 lamp, but then back to the enlarger cold light.
