It was recommended by Brahma on the gum discussion group, costs 10 bucks,
and is a good read for anyone remotely interested in pigments. If Brahma

In this book you will find information about the fineness of grind
affecting the intensity of the color. From my research into pigments it
appears to be "common knowledge" in the trade as well. Don't have the page
references because I don't have it here in front of me. It's discussed
early on in the book.
It is a little paperback but has lots of interesting factoids about color
and pigments. Like how blue went in and out of favor and was revived during
the late medieval and early Renaissance with the advent of the interest in
the Virgin Mary whose color for garments was blue.
