Hello.

New to the list, and this is my first post. Thanks for existing....

I tried to access the archives, but got a broken link, so I am asking a
question that has probably been asked (after some background).

I shoot LF, 4x5; and have until recently only used silver-based processes.
In the last 2 months, I have tried tried cyanotype & gum bichromate. I know
alt processes is where is want to be. Everything about it is joyful beyond
words, anyways....

I am ready to do some big prints! and try Ziatype, Kallitype & Albumen. I am
a graphic designer by trade, and digital enlargements seem like the best
option. My understanding is that this means an imagesetter or LVT; at least
to get high enough resolutions for the above processes. Aside from inkjet
(which I just can't believe do justice to a Pt/Pd Ziatype, etc.) what other
options are there? Has anyone tried lambda/lightjet? I know that those are
RGB output devices, and probably inappropriate; but they're far cheaper
where I am ($11 sq. ft.) than a heidelberg litho neg ($70 for a 20x24); not
to mention continous tone instead of halftone.

Can I get a good flatbed scanner since I shoot 4x5 and get great results
with say a 20x24 print? Is a drum scan worth the cost? What film/dev
routines are appropriate for negative intended to be scanned? FYI, I use
mostly TMAX 100, dev in D-76 1:1 in a Jobo Expert drum using hand inversion.
This is reliable for me, and gets excellent results.

For cyanotype and gum, are inkjet prints on transparencies acceptable? I
worry about not having enough density, and don't want some cheesy dot
pattern at all; but I don't know.

Aside from that :) I'd just like to hear from anyone who wants to share
about all aspects of utilizing scanning and digital options in their
techniques for enlarging negatives.

Thanks!

-Joe
