My 'economical' broke-student-trick is:
1. go to a frame store
2. purchase the 3' wide black backing paper
3. fix to gallery wall w/staples (not from a staple gun)
4. use magic marker and cover staples w/black
5. either use double sided masking tape or transparent
photo corners to hold to wall
6. purchase glass sheets (through wholesale if possible as
glass is a200-400% markup) the size larger than your
images. i.e: if you make an 8x10 image on 11x14 paper buy
16.20 glass
7. use L-hooks to fasten to wall
The glass caused the black of the backing paper to take on another shade and
thereby creating the illusion of false matting.
This is extremely inexpensive and looks great. I have hung three large
exhibits of my work this way. Average cost for 40-50 prints is $75.
