Chunin,
What kind of subject?
For studio type of work, you can build a simple box camera and put a
$10 copy lens (from Surplus Shed) on it, use a lens cap and trip your
flash manually. This can work especially if you can place the lens at
just the right distance to the back for the subject, and use a tape
measure to place the subject in your pre-focused zone. If you take a
look at the HOBO on Bostick and Sullivan's site, you'll find that
it's essentially the same thing. You can add a piece of "groundglass"
to it, using a piece of scrap plexy and tape frosted adhesive tape
(3M Magic tape) on it. You should be able to build the whole thing
yourself for less than $20, including the lens. Is that dirt cheap
enough?
By the way, thanks again for the free glass plates. They work great
for my purposes!
