Yes, I have tried double coating both VDB and kallitype. You can get
a slight increase in Dmax by double coating with both processes but
not enough to justify the extra step, at least in my opinion. And of
course double coating doubles the chance that you will make a mistake
in coating. It is pretty easy to see that you have applied the
emulsion evenly with just one coating because the yellow/green
sensitizer stands out from paper white. However, when you apply the
second coat all you see is yellow/green and thus much more difficult
to be certain that the sensitizer is evenly spread. Better to just
use more emulsion and apply only one coat.
