There are numerous very good books to recommend, many of them authored by
persons on this very list - however, in my opinion, for students interested
in exploring different processes, Christopher James' "The Book of Alternate
Photographic Processes" would be a must-have. The process info is *very*
reliable - plus it's joyful and easy to read, and leaves one excited to try
the different possibilities.

And, at the risk of seeming entirely self-interested, if you are interested
in a book which offers a very good overview of the work being done today in
historical process - Lyle Rexer's "Photography's Antiquarian Avant Garde:
The New Wave in Old Processes" is recommended. There are 120 reproductions
and the (considerable) text is well written and illuminating.

Good luck!
