Shannon,

Please, a chain? You'd sound like Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol. And think
of all the noise you'd make trying to sneak up to take a wild life photo.
Clinking, clanking. Making a spectacle of yourselves.

Instead of using a chain, why not use a leather whip? I'm quite sure you and
Katherine could add a little bit of weight to the whip to hold it down (and if
you add a little leather strap on the handle part you could use it as a
drawstring). Not only would you be able to sneak up on the wildlife, you'd also
be able to fend them off in case things went south.

Also I'd leave the bells off of it. But a whistle might come in handy if you
wanted to summon additional help.

Now back to alt (at least for those in the US).

I did a check at the Sam's Club website (www.samsclub.com) and there's no Epson
perfection 2450 listed. Ditto at Buy.com. Ditto at Costco. I know that I saw the
2450 listed on at least 2 of those web sites before Christmas. As I mentioned in
an earlier posting, there was a rumor that the 2450 is going to be replaced with
a 3450 (I think that's what I read, maybe a 3460).

Don't know if a lack of product means that it was a hot seller or if it means
that Epson is not putting any more into the market in anticipation of a new
scanner. Anyone wanting to buy this scanner might want to wait until the
beginning of January (or even the Mac Expo in SF toward the middle of the month)
to see if Epson announces a new scanner in the US market. At that point, if
vendors still have the 2450, they might market it down to clear out their
inventory.

The $350 price at Sam's club that Wayne reported is a great price though I
thought that I saw it slightly cheaper (like $294) at one of these sites (I
think it was either Sam's or Costco). But be warned: the scanner wasn't
available in the store (I checked) and you had to order it and have it shipped
to your home. The shipping and handling *might* negate any savings when you
compare it to buying it locally.
