Hi Judy!
There are vast supplies of high-silica content volcanic ash around Mt. St.
Helens in Washington and Oregon. It's been used by artglass makers, but also
gives a high boost nutrient in fertilizer...the summer and fall after the
eruption, there were two harvests and flowers bloomed for months longer than
normal, due to the effect the ash had to the soil....must have been the
nitrogen content, or something.........
