Friends,
My first post, but long time reader. A while back there was a brief
discussion on the topic of using InkJet to make negs. Can someone refresh
me as to what the decision was regarding the best technique. When I set my
output to "Tranparency Paper" I get lines. When I print on "Best Photo
Paper" I don't get lines, but D-Max is too low. Thoughts?

It's me again.
I have tried the Rives BFK, Rising Drawing Bristol Plate 2 ply, and the
Stratmore 500 Bristol plate 2/ply today. I used the same neg. on all three.
I had coated them all with 1% OA by the dipping method and hung dry.
65% humdity today outside.
Rives BFK
I used a rod for application had difficulty spreading it. and it soaked up
the sensitizer. On the 2nd sheet I used enuf sensitizer for 5x7 and finally
was able to get it spread. The results were less than desirable. Grainy
and weak dmax.
Rising Drawing.
applied well with the rod. warm tone. the detail is gorgeous. tonal
range desireable. I like it!! 2 ply seemed to bring the demax out well
enough. I don't use a step but it seemed to dry down a little lighter.
Grain fine and Dmax pretty good.
Stathmore 500 2/ply
Applied with a rod and the sensitizer resisted at first.....it did not
absorb so quickly. But with about 4 pushes it did just fine. I'll admit
that it was harder to determine the printing time. As a result, I did print
it a tad dark but the detail in the highlight and shadows shows well. It
seems to have cooler tones. I really like this one the most. It was a
river scene that I used for all 3 and the detail in the water reflections
and the swirls came out beautiful on this paper. Grain fine and DMAX is
pretty great!
All this kind of makes my Arches Platine prints, from previous printing
sessions look just kind of okay.
