Richard,
before throwing the fe am citrate, try adding some drops of potassioum
dichromate to the working solution until the blue disappears. Be
careful because an excess of dichromate affects contrast and
sensitivity. If this works, you could add the same (proportional)
amount of dichromate to the citrate solution for a better
reproducibility of results.
Another possibility is to filter the working solution, but usually the
ferrous ferricyanide is so finely divided that it cannot be filtered.
