There's a rod that the head assembly travels back and forth on, if it
had some gunk on it that caused a bump in the travel at the same spot
every time it may cause banding in that direction. I'd might try giving
it a good cleaning but I'd wonder if it has any lubricant that could get
hurt by this, you might do an appropriate web search and see if anything
pops up.
