RE: Pt/PD Paper for Superior resolutionSandy and all, I just received my order for the Clearprint 18X24 sheets - the minimum order is $75 so I had to order 2 packages of 100 sheets. I doubt that I will ever use them all but you never know. I have multiple reasons for ordering these especially since there is a chance that I can also print PT/PD on them. I have just finished printing the CAD drawings for my hopefully soon to be new home and I can not believe how well this stuff takes the Quad black inks from my 1160. I also hope to try an print a negative test.

More to Sandy's question though. The stuff is a little thin - probably slightly lighter than 20lb Xerox copy paper. So, the answer is emphatically yes, the backing/mounting will effect the print tone. But, this paper seems to take just about any amount of ink, so I may try to make some inkjet (pronounce that Giclee) :o) prints and run some longevity tests. For those of you who have followed my search for the right combination of inks and substrates for both negs and prints on the same printer/ink combination, I'm getting closer.

Are there any special consideration for mounting and/or presenting prints on Clearprint and/or Mars Vellum? And does the color of the mounting board impact heavily the tone of the print?

    Darryl,

I believe that link goes to Clearprint 1000H, which works fine and is very similar to the Mars. If you print larger than 8x10, you might want to consider Clearprint 1020 or 1025. Both of these are a bit thicker and easier to deal with for larger prints. The thinner versions are still much easier to work with than, say Bienfang Graphics 360, however.

      Jeff and Clay,

      Great, thanks

.... I did a "Google" and also found this link:
      http://www.draftingequipment.com/DEW/products/suppliespaper/paper/vellum.htm
      for a 24 X 20 yd roll for $18.78.

Can't wait to try it. I've been using Staedtler vellum with good success, but I'm a glutton for cheap paper.

      thanks

      Darryl

Darryl: Several sources out there, I believe, but I got a 20-yard roll of 24-inch for $34.78 from Tri-Co Blue Print & Supply of Ventura CA. See www.tricoblue.com. They have many sizes, quantities, rolls and sheets. -jb

OK, in haste I deleted the first several messages in this thread. I understand the answer is/was Clearprint. What is this paper and where can I find some to try?

        thanks

I'm seconding Clay. I've only been using Clearprint for a short while but I've seen, besides my own, a number of images by Clay and also Kerik Kouklis. Clearprint gives an appearance of detail superior to anything else I've seen in pt/pd. Looks really great when coated w/ Gamblin Cold Wax Medium as a final step. If you decide to try the stuff - cheap, as Clay points out - I or Clay can tell you where to get it in rolls (20 yards of 24" wide for, I forget exactly, but just $35 or something like that). Again, if you get some, inquire again; there are some highly advisable steps to follow in processing. -jeff

I would be interested in hearing from folks regarding a paper for Pt/PD printing that will give SUPERIOR detail when printing. It can be an unconventional paper-that is fine.

        Thanks,
