I've only skimmed Sandy's long post quickly and won't have time to read
it carefully until later this afternoon, but wanted to respond to this
bit that came with Jack's.

There is a misperception here, in that you are comparing apples and
oranges: with Sam's solution you are taking the percentage of the total
coating solution; and then you are comparing it to the 27% or whatever
saturated dichromate, which refers only to the dichromate not to the
total coating solution. I sent you the figures last night, but
apparently you didn't bother to calculate the percentages. The
percentage of dichromate to the total coating solution for my saturated
dichromate is 13.5%.
