We've used a sheet of rubylith wrapped around an ordinary bulb and
fastened with clips so no white light comes through. Works perfectly,
price is right & never burns out. I also found
that the red bulbs themselves were coated with a lacquer that tended to
chip. It took weeks one time to track mysterious fogging to tiny chips in
the lacquer coating of the bulb...
