Hi,

This morning there was a radioshow (Radio-2) and a Epson spokesman was
interviewed about this.

He claimed the following:

Epson uses a piezo system to spray ink on the paper, this is different
to the common thermal (or buble) print heads. The printhead always stays
in the printer, only the container with ink is replaced opposed to other
printers where head and container are replaced. Due to the fact that the
head stays in and to avoid damage to the head while printing with no
ink: Epson, he said, choose to add a reserve volume so that the head
never runs dry (and gets damaged). According the spokesman the customer
does not pay for this ink (as he cannot use it because of the chip).

Secondly he said that epson garantueed a minimal number of pages to be
printed with a cartridge (should be on the box).

The spokesman said that Epson requested details of the test procedure
but did not receive them.

We'll see how this develops....

Huib.

Onderwerp: Epson: cheating us??

Dear List,
This week the dutch consumers' organization 'CONSUMENTENBOND' gives
an advice to all her customers not to buy Epson printers anymore;
they detected a chip used by Epson which indicates that the
cartridges were to be replaced but the cartridges were not empty at
all!! It seems to be that this chip will force the user to replace
non-empty cartridges. It sounds unbelievable, but before a consumers
organization comes out with such an advice, one can be sure there is
really something wrong!
cheers,
Henk
