Hi Richard and others !

Have a look at this fascinating site completely devoted to various
photographic "disappearances" on pictures of the Stalin's period :

http://www.newseum.org/berlinwall/commissar_vanishes/main.htm

Stunning, I think!

Another place where you will find a lot of info which could be useful for
your study (but you will have to explore the site in its very intimate
corners) is the following site which has been founded by a small team of
searchers and specialists of Images in our society. One of the leaders,
Laurent Gervereau is the Director of Musée du Temps Présent and has been
the curator of an exhibition called "Ces images qui mentent" (= those
pictures which lie) 3 years ago. this exhibit showed how the pictures ( not
only photography, the same existed with paintings, engravings...) have been
used at all periods for manipulating and being manipulated. Gervereau is
also author of several books on these subjects.
The site offers numerous analyses of the use of pictures in the press, in
advertising, in communication... with plenty of examples and references to
our cultural uses and misuses of pictures. And plenty of other fascinating
issues.
The site is basically in French but offers an English version. Have a look
at :

http://www.imagesmag.net/

Richard, I hope you will enjoy these resources and please keep me informed
of your work !

Cheers from France
Jean
