Ed,
This is what mine looked like with the 6g lamp black and 12ml gum and
equal sensitizer (am di mixed at an eqivalent pot di concentration). I
expose with an Edwards UV light box for 12 minutes. Then with development
the image appears, and then brush. But that is exactly the density I got.
At that concentration of pigment to gum, there is no image visible when you
first take it out of the frame. I'll email you a jpeg off list right
now--you'll see how it looks charcoaly.
What this test proved to me was not that I would use lamp black at that
level, especially not for multi coating, but that it can be done without
getting flaking and black squares! I even exposed one at 24 minuts and that
one was fine too. I even left some of my gum prints overnight in the water
and they didn't ruin or slough off. I just feel I am relaxing my rigid
rules of 5 yr ago to experiment and see how you can push the limits. OH, I
hope you were using Rives BFK.
As an aside, I weighed my tubes of pigment today (only the full ones)
to see what variance there might be and if it would be possible to mix by
volume, not gram, all volumes being more or less equal, and the tubes range
in weight from 25g to 33 g (14ml) so I guess that was a dead end, being 25%
variance.
Chris
