Robert,
it is very easy with a copper plate cutter, but if you don't have access to one, you can cut a plate quite easily with a sharp blade and a steel ruler, see:

p.s. A-sizes are standard in Europe, widely used by printmakers, maybe that's why polymer plates come in those sizes ;o)
