OK, this is the last message on aquarium heaters, and thanks to
everyone for letting me think out loud on the list.
I found a simple solution to my problem. The knob on my submersible
aquarium heater allowed adjustment only up to 88F. At 88F the pointer
encountered a physical stop and would not rotate any further. OK, I
removed the stop with an razor cutter and now can rotate the
adjustment knob way beyond the original stop. I have it set now so
that it cuts off at 120F, and that is as high as I want or need it to
go.
Just for the record, the aquarium heater in question is a submersible
100 watt Hagen Thermal, which is said to have a waterproof seal and a
ceramic heater core. I bought it at a local Petsmart store.
Thanks again for all the advice, and hope that my finding about
removing the stop might be interesting to someone.
