Jonathan,

I completely agree with you. I saw that exhibition Edinburgh in 1993, and I
remember perfectly that lighting approach. But other factor helped. The
overall level of illumination was like a penumbra making it very effective
in terms of viewing conditions, and atmosphere. It was like a cathedral.
I've never seen in any other place such dignity exhibiting photographs. It
was an spiritual experience. I'll never forget that exhibition. it changed
my perspective of photography forever.
Each specimen was presented with a very special care, like an unique
diamond.
