name of process?

Several years ago I made black and white silver prints that I then etched
with a chemical (the chemical I used was purple - I don't remember which
chemical I used). I can't recall the name of the process I used, but I
would like to make more etched prints. If someone could remind me of the
process I was using, I could look up my notes, etc.

Can anyone help out, please?
