You questioned where I get my knowledge on gelatin, but all the things
you asked me so far are well documented in literature. Most of them
are also described in the Burness and Pouradier's chapter in James 4th
edition.

Formaldehyde and glyoxal are only capable of making aldimine links
with gelatin, while glutaraldehyde is more likely to form more stable
cyclic structures, using multiple molecules of glutaraldehyde at a
single linking site. This is also described in a speculative way in
the Burness's chapter in James 3rd edition. More direct evidences were
published in 1970's.
