You certainly should avoid inhaling powdered selenium (e.g. use a mask)
but to put the toxicity in perspective consider that the active
ingredient in "Selsun blue" shampoo is 1% selenium sulfide -- and I
would likewise strongly recommend against drinking large quantities of
the shampoo as well :-) In small quantities selenium is sold for
injestion as an "anti-oxidant".
