I thought it was sapiens... as in Homo sapiens,

but anyway, perhaps either the Sociological
researchers or the women involved were simply
uninformed of the meaning of mankind, or this usage of
'man'.

When a word has more than one meaning, no need to
change it so one sector of society can feel comfort in
knowing they have their own word, a word created to
eliminate all possibility of interpretation.

I would be happy using the historical term were I male
or female.

It in facts reflects our history.
We may not like that history, but it is ours, never
the less.

I do not think it is good to rename something simply
because we do not like the thing behind the name.

As this is Off topic, I, at least, will deposit my 2
cents and close up shop on this topic.

Leave it up to those who speak, to choose their words.
Leave it up to those who listen, to find true meaning.

Let none choose my words for me.
For they are mine.

or perhaps, they are me.

????
"Man" in this usage is not exclusionary... words do
have more than literal, face value interpretation.

How many "hot" items are found at room temperature?
How many "cool" items are in fact quite "hot", in one
way or another?

How many children call their non-biological fathers,
"father", when they were not in fact "fathered" by
those men?

???
Why change one word, perhaps we should change all
multiple meaning/usage words...
