I know I mentioned this before, but I wanted to send more information and
press release. If any of you are in the Pittsburgh area September 15 -
October 15, 2005, this will be worth checking out! In a bit of selfish
promotion, my piece that is in this show is on my front page:

Daguerreian Niche: Works by Contemporary Artists features over fourteen
photographers from around the world.

The daguerreotype, the first photographic art form, popular in the 1840s and
50s, is a one-of-a kind image produced on a plate of mirror-polished silver.
The daguerreotypist must first polish his or her own plates and then endure
a cocktail of hazardous chemicals to first sensitize, then develop the
image.

The Daguerreian Society and Silver Eye Center for Photography are presenting
an opportunity to see some of the very best contemporary daguerreotypes made
by this small group of dedicated practitioners‹keeping the art alive.

This exhibition was curated by Linda Benedict-Jones, Executive Director,
Silver Eye Center for Photography and Mark Johnson, President, The
Daguerreian Society. This exhibition takes place at The Daguerreian Society,
not at Silver Eye, which will be closed for renovations at this time.

The daguerreotypists who were invited to participate in the exhibition
include:

David Burder of England
Sean Culver, of Illinois
John Hurlock of Illinois
Marc Kereun of France
Christopher Lovenguth of New York
Irving Pobboravsky of New York
Gregory Popovitch of Michigan
Levon Register of Georgia
Eric Rickart of Utah
Michael Robinson of Canada
Alyssa Salomon of Virginia
Charlie Schreiner of Michigan
Robert Shlaer of New Mexico
Jerry Spagnoli of New York
Hilary Treadwell of Rhode Island
Tom Young of Colorado.

The Daguerreian Society, with over 900 members internationally, is an
organization of individuals and institutions sharing a common interest in
the art, history and practice of the daguerreotype.

This is a rare opportunity to see some of the very best contemporary
daguerreotypes made by this small group of dedicated practitioners keeping
the art alive.
