This last is exactly the kind of personal remark that I have argued has
no place on the list. It isn't useful, it isn't helpful, it doesn't
make sense even in the context of the present discussion, and it's the
kind of thing that makes very knowledgable people stop contributing to
the list because they say to themselves, who needs this? I don't need
this.
I simply shared an observation that related back to an earlier
discussion. Mark asked who started the earlier discussion, and I
answered basically, "who cares?" because to me it's the issues that
matter, not the personalities. I don't see anything particularly
incendiary about that response. Then suddenly here comes this personal
attack out of nowhere. I don't understand it, and I don't need it.
