A variation on the phenomenon you have noticed is that when I wash the plate
after mixing the coating, the orange dichromate washes out of the gum first
leaving the gum/pigment mixture on the plate. This reflects what I said earlier,
that the gum is porous. That is why the lighter dichromate solution sinks to
the bottom.
