I always get precipitate using the best chemistry I can get AND distilled
water, it mentions it in some recipes, and says to filter. I always ripen as
well, as I have also found that the coating disappears during the wet
processing otherwise.

Charles, does this mean that you weren't using distilled water when mixing
the first 1 (or 2) batches?

I tried mixing Vandyke sensitizer without using distilled water once and the
silver nitrate solution immediately turned cloudy. Seeing this, I didn't
proceed further and restarted using distilled water.
