Description from the catalog reads: multiple gum bichromate print over
platinum, signed and dated by the photographer in crayon on the image,
mounted, matted, framed, 1904. Final price with buyer's premium: 2.928
million
Second and third place were taken by gelatin silver prints though, which
went for 1.472 million and 1.360 million. They were the only other 7 figure
prints sold at that auction. Both were by Stieglitz.

Subject: $2.6 million gum print?
Does anyone know whether the Steichen print sold for $2.6 million at
Sotheby's was a gum, a gum over pt, or? The news said nothing.
If a gum, the next question is: would it have been sold for as much if
it were a gelatin/silver print?
