Okay . . then Pictorico is necessary. It is a film coated with micro-
ceramic particles and
holds inks (from an Epson printer with Ultrachrome inks) extremely
well with a quick dry
and no spreading.
If you purchase a roll of Pictorico you can get about 35 negs from a
17 inch by 66 foot
long roll. The ink cost is about $1.20 per square foot. With quick
figuring that makes the
cost per 15" x 29" negative about $11 (U.S.) if you are careful.
The least expensive Epson printer is the 4000 or, now, the 4800
(which I prefer for doing
triple duty: negs, b/w images and color). That is about $2k.
But, and there is the caveat, if you are serious regarding all this,
the whole price is
worth the investment.
