Yes, that might be a good place to start experiments.
The 50% gum solution is how I usially mix for my own gums. 50/50 dichromate
and gum is about right, But in my experience, that amount of pigment will
give a very contrasty image without that smoothness one associates with the work
of Puyo and Demachy.
I suspect that he has also left something out,
