Fogging:
I work under 100W tungsten (incandescent) light. Paper is never closer
than 1.5m (5 feets) to the light in any instance. I never experienced
fog with Ziatypes, New Cyanotypes, Vandykes, Argyrotypes (and few gum
tests) with this setup (even when drying paper for 1 hour while the
light's on).

Protection:
I would use speciality UV blocking eyeglasses with that unit, I suppose
it's a pretty strong lightsource. I expose using 40W 24" fluorescent BL
tubes (electronic ballasts), although I don't use speciality glasses I
keep away from the unit during exposures (except for few seconds at
start and when stopping it) and never stare at the bulbs directly. I
wear ordinary multicoated eyeglasses which I think reduces the amnt. of
UV rays reaching to my cornea - to some extent. I plan to purchase
speciality UV protection glasses in the first opportunity since I don't
feel completely safe.

Paper:
Where are you? If you're in Europe, you can try http://www.prophot.fr/ -
prices are fine.

Regards,
Loris.

Subject: Misc questions related to work areas and safety

Hello,

I was wondering if one must put a curtain or something similar around
your exposure unit. I'm using a 26-1k and it is sitting in what used to
be my dining room. I will be putting up a curtain to cut down on the
light which comes from the attached living room and then use something
to block the light coming from a window (piece of foamboard maybe).
What kind of ambient meter reading would you get in your work area?
(assuming the safelight is off). I don't think I'll have a light-tight
area.

Is it a good idea to put up a second curtain/something directly around
the exposure unit?

Should I wear UV sunglasses or protect my eyes in some way while
exposing? Would super cheap sunglasses from the drugstore that say UV
work? (or do I need to have a decent pair)?

...and one unrelated Q... Do you ever buy artists paper online? I
tried to get some COT 320 locally, and they had no idea what I wanted.
If you do buy online...where? Is it packed well?

Thanks for all the help

Gu
