Who is it? Not Nigel Betternueue? He is Terry King. The IP address is the
same for Nigel as it is for Terry.
I just sent a Nabble message to the list using the name Thor Bols, a
legendary alt poster from the past. Even the Nabble-sent message does not
disquise the fact that it was sent from Gumphoto. There's a lot of info to
be had by looking at the message header.

The con and the pro:
I agree with the way the list has always been run--subscribe, post messages
with real names. If you get mean and frisky, you're booted. Large white ass
comments not allowed (how about medium to small tushies?)
Gordon has always kept pretty good tabs on that, and because of that we have
become a community, for better or worse. It takes time to develop
relationships and it is important we know each other because we then can be
more trusting of the alt information we share.
So I'm an anti-nabblist.
However, Camden has a point. In fact, there is someone on the list I
surmise right now whose identity is probably not authentic. The name is
just tooo.....clever. It's not Janet Neuhauser, Darryl Baird, Bill Kennedy,
Mark Nelson, Sam Wang, Sandy King, Terry King, Terry Lindquist, Art
Chakalis, Judy Seigel, Dick Sullivan, Don Bryant, Eric Nielsen, Keith
Gerling, Keith Taylor, Robert Cockrell, Marek Matusz, Diana Bloomfield, Jan
Pietrzak....you get the picture....these are people in the flesh I have met
at APIS or in my travels. That is why it is tantamount to also have meeting
grounds where we see each other in person. That way, too, we get faces and
mannerisms that go along with our obnoxious personalities. All of a sudden
posts come alive.
Then there is also the truthfulness factor--do we all have the credentials
we say we do? Both of those things--identity and credibility, get proven
with time in a community of sharing. I've been on the list since August 99,
but there are lots who predate me.
My bigger concern than nabble on the list at the moment is the lack of
posting about alt. Either people aren't doing alt, or they're too lazy to
post their info, or they're incessantly traveling, or they are afraid.
Don't talk to me about being too busy. We all are. I can't believe how many
times people have posted questions of late that have gone unanswered or
answered by one person. It used to be lots of people answering each
question! Whaddup wit dat?
How many members does the list have, Gord, btw?
Chris
