Thanks for the replies.

So I am not the only one with this problem! It has a name!!!

I usually put a piece of mat board, cut to the size of the mask window,
behind the paper to correspond with position of the mask window. This
seems to push the paper through the window and improve the contact, but
it is a pain to position right and does not always work.

I was thinking about painting the very edges of the negs with
crocian(?) scarlet. Maybe that would work.
