Given Judy's comments about Stieglitz, salon photography and pictorialism,
another book which people may find particularly useful in placing GK amongst her
contemporaries, is Weston Naef's book on 'The Collection of Alfred Stieglitz,
Fifty Pioneers of Modern Photography', 'A Studio Book,The Metropolitan museum
of Art/The Viking Press, New York' which was first published in 1978, ISBN
0-670-67051-0. The book serves to emphasise the inernational nature of
pictcorialism at its height.

As to much pictorialism degenerating to the worst kind of Salon photography.
the London Salon was the 'home' of early pictorial photography, the 'decay' of
pictorialism and salon photography went in parallel. What is rather
depressing is that the work of photographers appeared to 'decay' in the same way. Puyo
was probably one of the finest of early pictorialists but his work went
downhill over the years. He took a series of pictures of much the same scene year by
year which degenerated to 'the worst salon' style'.
