I strongly suggest building your own light source using fluorescent UV
bulbs. Write to the Palladio Company, Inc.. P.O. Box 28 Cambridge, Mass
02140 and ask for a catalog. Plans for a light unit are in the catalog.
The bulbs are special fl bulbs (GE F15T8/BL or Sylvania F350/15T8) and are
fairly expensive but if you are associated with an institution you may be
able to get them on an institutional contract at a lower price. I used the
sun for several years but you really have little control over sunlight.
Finally, I built a light source using these bulbs. I have used it for
cyanotype, kallitype, gum, platinum and palladium with great success. Exposure
times are from 10-20 minutes depending on the process and negative. Really,
its the only way to go if you want repeatability unless you have access to
a commercial arc light.
