Sorry to have fomented the quagmire about copying your slides for it was
not an intent to disturb the Alt. Proc. list's best interests.
While standing in the Louvre a couple of weeks ago, Diane (my wife) said,
about a crowd in front of us, "That must be the Mona Lisa." It was. It is
a small painting that perhaps might not be known but for the author's
unique personal properties. Scrillions have only seen reproductions yet
made a pilgrimage to see the real thing.
I agree fully ... and find the discussion re making an object of beauty
vs one for repo of great interest and one that could indeed induce us on
this list to make more interesting and perhaps precious work ... so, the
call for slides was for those gentle souls who realize that a student
might make that pilgrimage and seek eloquence. Showing other folks' work,
work not as well known but of consistency and vision, inspires the
beginners to feel free yet be disciplined. It helps them realize that
skill is not intrinsic to fame. To only show work from
established image makers can create acolytes and chauvinists braying at
the altar of current fashion.
Those of you who wish to, can ... and those who feel their work might not
be translated correctly, ought not to.
