Judy,

Perhaps the "long soak" is part of the answer to your not
needing the clearing bath. I'm sure you are aware that with
shorter soaking periods a dichromate stain can remain. I have
had plenty of occasions for wanting to remove a print from the
soaking bath before the dichromate stain was gone (basically
to arrest development at a certain point). The use of the
clearing bath is effective atonement for this sin.
