I agitate my print like crazy in the developer - I seem to get more of
the subtle details, and less grain. Whether real or imagined, these
results come without any of the problems you describe.

[I am using Arches Platine paper, Pot. Ox dev. @ room temp., and a 1:7
mix of Pt and Pd]
