Don, Judy et al,

It has been suggested that we are born with a quota of apostrophes. I think
that some people are simply using theirs all up now. It's a bit like
photographers supposedly having only a certain number of good photos in them
(she says after a morning in the darkroom - sigh)
But I am reminded of a sign I saw earlier this year in the window of a local
mixed business shop advertising their J'ohn'quill's [flowers]. Gets rid of
three of them in one word.
