Re: New home for list needed.
I think it would be a bad move to leave this group in the hands of a
commercial concern like Google or Yahoo. I won't go on at length about
why this is not a good idea, but someday Google might be owned by
somebody else and then you could kiss the list good-bye. I hope that it
might be hosted by another educational institution as it always has been
in the past.

Huib, first, thanks much for the offer. I think this list should be placed
on Google Groups or Yahoo Groups, both of these offer high volume and
(virtualyl) 100% redundancy. They offer a web interface with file / photo
sharing, very effective search tools and what not... They also both support
web and good old mail interface.
My preference would be Google Groups...

A new home: as some already coined: yahoo or any other service could be an
option.
Otherwise: I have a unix server (FreeBSD) running at home, it hosts a
friends and mine website. It would, technically speaking, be no big deal to
install and setup majordomo as listserver.
Depends only a bit on the traffic generated as I have a consumer ADSL
(20/1.5 mbps) link, the hardware is not redundant and could be down due to
power outages, my ISP has a fair use policy on amount of data send/receive
(way up somewhere in the Gigabytes/Month)
Can you disclose the number of subscribers, just the number, I could do some
calc's if it fits within the limitations I have.
