Re: Another PVA question

hi kerik
i wonder why this is happening to both of us. are you getting this on paper or on wood?
i just re-watched the "pva size over platinum print" tutorial on youtube (it's from a list member, whose name i unfortunately forgot) and he does not brush it in vigorously, like i remembered it. he uses a foam roller, but gently. so forcing the pvy into the fiber is maybe not the way to go.
kerik, are you using a paper with a very smooth surface? because mine was very smooth.

i do notice that the exposed gum seems to come off (not in first development. later.) in chunks or flakes. it seems like the gum hardens properly, but just can't adhere to the paper surface.

phritz

It was plenty hard when I applied the 2nd layer. But everything comes off very easily after it goes back into the soak. Today I used a spray bottle on a third coat - and removed portions of the 1st two coats.

Keith,

Is the gum actually soft when it has soaked in the bath? Or' does it
come off in a sheet where rubbed by the brush? It sounds like you are
saying that the gum looses its hardness or never got very hard on the
PVA.
