Hello Loris,

Thanks for the tip on the Gamblin PVA size. But based on Peter's
description, I am beginning to think that it was the weak ammonia I used
that destroyed the sizing. Will try the hydrogen peroxide first.

When I was making casein prints, first color was always no problem. It was
the subsequent layers that stained. The gelatin sized and formaldehyde sized
paper stained a little less but still not so great. Plus I didn't care for
the feel of such sized paper. The only paper I found not to stain
excessively was the Kooh-i-Noor(?) drafting vellum, a beautiful translucent
paper that I have not been able to find for years. Strathmore Bristle was
second, till they changed the formula.

Sam
PS: though we usually want stain-free prints, I've included a couple
moderately border-stained images in my book - where the stains actually
added a great deal of appeal.
