Yesterday I did a small experiment. Since I could rescue an "overcooked"
gum layer on a Pt print (have it on my own webspace now at
http://members.casema.nl/cordieuwke/GumOverPlatinumII.html). I was
curios if this would work in this unfavourable situation: on Simili
Japon paper: normally this paper is not very usefull for gum printing,
it is very smooth cold pressed paper: it is my main paper for
Plationotype, Kallitype etc.
Gum layers wash of very easily on this paper, there is not much tooth.
So I took the same negative as above (high density, in general you do
not want that for gum) I made a gumlayer with quite some Alizarin
Crimson (eye balling here) and exposed for 1 hour, really cooking the
gum layer.
Than I started slowly bleaching back in 2% chlorix, 15 min in the bleach
(2%) 15 min in the water, for about 2 hours.
The result is what I think is a quite acceptable single coat gum print
with full tonality. It is just that I do not particularly like the
resulting colour hue, I'll try to put a Burnt Sienna layer on top
tonight.
This bleaching game surely opens up possibilities!
Thanks,
Cor
