I checked the  Epson R2400 service manual and it seems that the button reset method is not supported. But try it anyway! 
The manual states that for a reset of the waste  ink counter (or protection counter as epson calls it) you need the official epson maintenance application (which is only available for official epson service people). But as a free alternative you can use this windows application (http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml) at your own risk.
