We have people talking about personal enjoyment and people talking about
making work for the marketplace. These are not the same thing and I would
argue that very few alt printers ever seriously get into the marketplace so
let's make sure we aren't putting the cart before the horse. Raise of hands
from those who make even 50% of their income from selling prints? 25%?

Personally: screw the marketplace. If I were making work just to sell I'd
be shooting 4x5 or 8x10 color film and printing 32x40 and 40x50 to hang
above couches. I don't make work because it sells, I make work because I
want to--and I'll make it any way I please. If it sells, hooray! But if it
doesn't I still enjoyed making it and that's enough for me.

I'm into this for my own personal enjoyment. I can't help but make
photographs--I am obsessive about it--and I love playing mad scientist and
getting into the darkroom to play.

Why this sudden turn towards telling people what they should or shouldn't
be doing and what is or isn'ta waste of personal time on this email list?
