I posted a reply to the list in reply to your question about finding ways to
speed the preparation of paper for gum printing before the first coat of pigment
can be applied.
I remarked that I had never thought that anybody was sitting over a hot
Bockingford for a whole week but that it is possible to reduce the preparation
time to two or three hours rather than the two or three days you were taking.
Did you get that posting ?
I hope that this is going to make your life even easier: If you start with
Bockingford or Fabriano 5 NOT and size between coats, there is no need for any
preparation at all.
In fact it is possible to get six exposures from Bockingford with no extra
sizing at all.
I know that this is like Galileo telling the Vatican that the earth goes round
the sun but I have been making gum prints this way for twenty years. It works
and I am not the only one who does it this way; there are hundreds of others.
The prints we get are good and sharp with no degradation in the highlights. The
failure rate is low.
