Re: OSSEIN & inexpensive sources

Before getting Terry's March 7th message (in fact very early this morning
in order to reach England), I called Croda's Widnes number. I eventually
made it through to Dr. Seven Band who appears to be in charge of "obscure
items" (as the Toronto Croda branch phrases it).

Band was curious as to my use of Ossein and when I replied, he said he
remembered Terry contacting the company. I asked about how I could
purchase Ossein. He, in turn, offered to send me a sample--all the way to
Toronto! I think it was most kind of him since he knew from my intended
use of his product that I was not going to purchase large lots of the
stuff in the future. His one request was to receive a comment about the
effectiveness of Croda's Ossein. I will do so.

I want to echo Terry's comment that we go easy with the Croda. They are
very nice in offering samples to us, and we could easily overstep their
hospitality by too many of us coming forward to receive their gift.

Given that I get the results Terry atests to (by doing (a)test with olde
socks on me feet), I'm willing to "foot" the cost of purchasing Ossein
(hoofs, no less) in the future.

P.S. tried Fabriano without gelatine sizing, and found that it required
55% more exposure time for similar results I get from Cranes platinotype.
Have others had that experience? Also, Fabriano's weaved surface seems to
slightly bleed through the image.
