I can recall seeing several complaints in early photo journals of Kallitypes
being sneaked into exhibitions as platinum, presumably by the photographic
underclass unable to afford the noble paper. My suspicions are that there
are tons of Kallitypes lurking about in prominent collections masquerading
as platinums. All that needs to be done is to place a drop of nitric acid on
a dark portion of the print, the platinum will resist bleaching and the
Kallitype will go paper white almost instantly. Now if I could just get into
the Getty collection with my dropper bottle of nitric!
